Dr Jordi Alastruey is based in the Biomedical Engineering Department at King's College London.
His group analyses and models cardiovascular signals that carry information on cardiovascular function using numerical tools based on and validated against physiological data. In collaboration with cardiologists, cardiovascular pharmacologists and imaging scientists, they are investigating physical properties of the cardiovascular system that determine arterial blood pressure and flow waveforms in conditions associated with hypertension, vascular endothelial dysfunction, and cardiac dysfunction, which are all high risk factors for life-threatening cardiovascular outcomes. They are also developing novel tools to estimate (ideally non-invasively) properties that are relevant to the diagnosis and treatment of disease, such as aortic blood pressure and stiffness.
